Policies & Waiver
GUARANTEES
Client and Intuitive Choice K9 hereby agree to mediate and/or arbitrate any misunderstanding that may arise pursuant to the terms contained herein. In any action or proceeding arising out of this agreement, the prevailing party shall be entitled to reimbursement of costs and legal fees.
- Intuitive Choice K9's methods work exceptionally well for all ages, breeds, temperaments, and sizes of dogs. There will be progress, and it is often very fast, comparatively speaking.
- Ash is an Animal Behaviorist with a Master's in Science: Animal Behavior, canine/feline & equine; she is also a Certified Trick Dog Instructor (CTDI) through Do More With Your Dog and can sign off on trick dog titles of all levels. She is affiliated with the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), Pet Professionals' Guild (PPG), and is certified through the American Kennel Club to administer Trick titles, as well as CGC (Canine Good Citizen), CGCA, and CGCU exams, plus STAR puppy tests.
- Ash has trained and made available 2 of her own dogs to aid in behavior modification cases.
- Ash guarantees that when followed correctly, the training DOES create positive change quickly (after the first session clients often report astounding improvements). Anything that is worked on in a training package can be refreshed for free at a group event for the life of the dog.
- There is NO guarantee of meeting a training goal by a particular deadline, as this depends too much on the owner's participation.
- There is NO guarantee of meeting a behavior modification goal, as this depends too much on a dog's genetic makeup and past trauma or previous detrimental training methods. A reasonable expectation is that a client's dog become "neutral" around a trigger within a much closer distance.
- There is NO guarantee a service dog prospect won't wash out of the program, as this depends too much on genetics, individual nature vs. nurture, and owner's participation.
- Ash is very honest about what homework is required, what the workload will likely be for the owner, and what the likely outcome of training will be. This is only given after the first session, and cannot possibly be assessed without a private session.
- Ash Miner, owner of Intuitive Choice K9, follows the humane hierarchy in the treatment of all dogs and adheres to LIMA: least invasive, minimally aversive.
- Ash is a progressive-reinforcement trainer, and relies on a marker word (or a clicker, if the client prefers) and reward style of training.
- Ash does not promote or permit the use of punitive tools, such as: pennies in a can, spray bottles, newspaper rolls, prong collars, electronic collars that vibrate, beep, or stim/shock, or choke chains.
- Use of these tools violates Intuitive Choice K9 code of ethics and termination of services will be issued immediately. Refunds will not be given for unfulfilled services.
- Rejection of punitive tools is due to likelihood of inhumane treatment and risk of adverse side-effects to progress of training, especially in behavior modification.
- Ash does not promote or permit the use of verbal or physical punishment.
- Acceptable tools: Blue 9 Balance harness or equivalent ergonomically designed harness, martingale collar (1.5" minimum width for most dogs) without a chain unless the dog chews on it, or a head collar like the Halti as an absolute last resort.
- Appointments are scheduled Monday - Saturday, Sundays are Ash's day off.
- There may be a 1-2 week waitlist.
- Clients are booked on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Private sessions may be rescheduled to Ash's next availability when given 24-hours notice minimum. Group classes are not able to be rescheduled, but are drop-in and no fees will be forfeited.
- Clients are notified as much in advance as possible of the need to reschedule a session. This may be due to:
- Temperatures being over 80 degrees for outdoor sessions
- Ash's illness or injury
- Vacations
- Any sessions cancelled by Ash are not charged to the client.
- Clients should notify Ash as much in advance as possible of the need to reschedule a session.
- Any session cancelled by the client on the same day as the session is not entitled to a makeup session and payment is forfeit.
- Exceptions will be considered for emergencies.
- Prepaid clients with a significant gap in training (3 months or more) will have their prior payment applied to future services at current rates.
- Ash and the client understand that dogs are unpredictable and there is inherent risk in training activities.
- The client maintains 100% liability for their dog during and between all training sessions, both in the home and out in the world.
- The client maintains 100% liability for any and all damages or injuries done by their dog.
- Ash maintains 100% liability for any and all damages or injuries done by her dog(s).
- If training is done in the owner's absence, Ash will take the dog to the vet in case of an emergency if the owner can't be reached. The owner is responsible for all expenses.
- Clients often ask Ash about non-training related dog care questions. While she is happy to share her personal experience and opinions, she insists all health-related issues be discussed with the client's veterinarian or groomer, as applicable. Any advice given does not replace the recommendations of a health professional.
Client and Intuitive Choice K9 hereby agree to mediate and/or arbitrate any misunderstanding that may arise pursuant to the terms contained herein. In any action or proceeding arising out of this agreement, the prevailing party shall be entitled to reimbursement of costs and legal fees.
